Mission statement

Research at HWZ meets recognised standards of scientific quality and is guided by the norms of the relevant academic communities.

A key focus of HWZ’s transfer activities is to equip students with subject knowledge, personal skills and research methods. This includes the ability to engage critically with research topics and to act reflectively in complex and unfamiliar situations.

The HWZ research centre supports research across HWZ’s departments by providing resources and by strengthening research and transfer activities through incentive systems and targeted advice on research funding applications. By recognising research within career models, HWZ aims to increase the proportion of colleagues with a research focus.

Research objectives

• Unity of teaching and research: Research at HWZ is aligned with the university’s departments in order to strengthen the link between teaching and research. HWZ aims for a high level of involvement of lecturers and students.

• Synergies and networking: Research projects are usually carried out in cooperation with at least one other centre institute and/or with an external research or implementation partner.

• Application orientation: Research at HWZ is practice-oriented and addresses concrete questions from business and society. Wherever possible, projects are therefore conducted in collaboration with implementation partners.

• Research-motivated staff and lecturers: HWZ supports the career development of staff and lecturers with a strong interest in research through appropriate incentives and support services.

• Public visibility: Research findings are shared with stakeholders in industry and academia through specialist publications, social and other media, and events.
