Admission requirements for the bachelor’s programme
Find out more here about the various entry requirements, such as admission criteria and competencies, that you need to bring with you for your studies.

Admission to bachelor’s programmes at HWZ
Here you will find the admission requirements for a bachelor’s programme at HWZ. If you wish to start a bachelor’s programme without a Swiss Matura, we offer alternative pathways. If you are unsure whether you meet the admission criteria, we will be happy to discuss your individual situation in a non-binding consultation.
Direct admission
If you hold one of the following two federally recognised Swiss baccalaureate qualifications, you are eligible for direct admission to the HWZ bachelor’s degree programme:
Graduates of an apprenticeship with a federally recognised Swiss vocational baccalaureate (Berufsmaturität) in an occupation related to the chosen field of study.
Holders of a federally recognised Swiss vocational baccalaureate (Berufsmaturität) in a different specialisation, an academic baccalaureate (gymnasiale Maturität) or a specialised baccalaureate (Fachmaturität), provided you have at least one year of professional experience in an occupation related to the chosen field of study.
Important!
Because the HWZ programme is designed to be studied alongside employment, direct admission requires that you have at least one year of professional experience in an occupation related to your chosen field of study at the time you start the programme.
With the vocational baccalaureate “Business/Services” (Wirtschaft/Dienstleistungen), you are eligible for direct admission immediately upon completion of the vocational baccalaureate.
Admission without a Swiss Matura
You do not have a Swiss Matura and would like to complete a bachelor’s degree programme with us? Below you will find an overview of the available options and the entry routes we offer for applicants with different qualifications. Please check which case applies to you.
For all of the following cases, you must submit an application for an aptitude assessment (“sur dossier”) and have a certain number of years of professional experience.
If you have completed the higher vocational college for business (HFW) or marketing & communication (HFMK), you may be eligible for a shortened programme via the so-called Passerelle If you have completed a different higher vocational college, we will be happy to review your eligibility for admission and the possibility of entering from a Bridging Programme to make use of.
If you have completed the Higher Professional College in Business (HFW) or in Marketing & Communication (HFMK), you may be eligible for a shortened programme via the so-called Passerelle pathway.
If you have completed a different higher professional college qualification (Höhere Fachschule), we will be happy to review your eligibility and whether you can make use of a bridging option.
If you have obtained a federally recognised diploma (Höhere Fachprüfung) in a field related to your intended course of study, you may submit an application for an aptitude assessment (“sur dossier”), provided you have at least one year of professional experience in a related field.
If you have obtained a federally recognised upper secondary level qualification (Sekundarstufe II) of at least three years (e.g. a Swiss vocational education and training certificate of proficiency), you may submit an application for an aptitude assessment (“sur dossier”), provided you have at least five years of professional experience in a field related to your intended course of study and are at least 25 years old.
If you completed a three-year upper secondary level qualification (Sekundarstufe II) abroad that corresponds to a higher education entrance qualification in the relevant country, you may submit an application for an aptitude assessment (“sur dossier”), provided you have at least one year of professional experience in a field related to your intended course of study.
Completion of the vocational baccalaureate (Berufsmaturität)
If you have a technical or commercial upper secondary level qualification (Sekundarstufe II) and would like to obtain the vocational baccalaureate (BM2) subsequently, we recommend, for example, the part-time vocational baccalaureate offered by Juventus Maturitätsschule.
