Who will shape the economy of tomorrow: people, machines – or both together? And what role would you like to play in this?
Digitalisation and AI are transforming the way organisations operate and make decisions. In the HWZ Bachelor of Business Administration, you will learn how to interpret these developments, understand economic interrelationships, and actively help to shape change.
The HWZ degree programme is aimed at professionals who wish to gain a deeper understanding of business, develop their expertise, and create new career opportunities. You do not need to know exactly where your path will lead at this stage. During your studies, you will explore various areas of business administration, discover your interests, and later choose your own areas of specialisation.
The aim is for you to be able to assess economic challenges from a variety of perspectives, contribute your own ideas, and gradually take on greater responsibility – whether in specialist tasks, projects, or later in a leadership role. Through individual specialisations, you will refine your professional profile and tailor your studies to your interests and goals.
Alongside your subject knowledge, you will develop six key skills that will support you in your day-to-day work and future career development:
Thinking analytically: Understand complex relationships, critically evaluate information and data, and make well-informed decisions.
Acting entrepreneurially: Challenge existing solutions, identify opportunities and develop ideas to improve products, processes and business models.
Shaping collaboration and leading people: Learn how effective teams work together, what makes a good leader and how to support others.
Understanding and harnessing digitalisation and AI: Assess the opportunities and limitations of emerging technologies and learn how to apply them effectively in your professional life.
Taking responsibility: Consider the impact of business decisions on people, society and the environment.
Continual development: Recognise your strengths, reflect on your thinking and actions, and learn to navigate change and uncertainty.

| Shape your individual profile | In your final year, you combine two subject areas that reflect your interests. |
| Study with flexibility and predictability | Fixed study schedules, two intake dates and the option to take a semester break make it easier to plan ahead. |
In the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration at HWZ, you put new knowledge into practice straight away. Each semester consists of five learning cycles, each centred around two workshop days at HWZ. During these workshops, you tackle real-world business cases, develop solutions, present your ideas and discuss different approaches with fellow students and lecturers who bring practical industry experience. Before each workshop, you build the necessary subject knowledge through three focused evening sessions. This approach allows you to combine new knowledge with practical experience throughout your studies.
No end-of-semester exam stress: you complete your assessments throughout the semester, benefiting from a more balanced workload.
Different stages of learning call for different types of support. At HWZ, the guidance you receive is tailored to the subject and your individual needs. The AI learning coach helps you explore topics in greater depth at your own pace. In your study group, you exchange ideas with fellow students. For academic or personal questions, lecturers and coaches are there to support you. This means you get the guidance you need at each stage of your learning journey.
To help you plan your studies around work and personal commitments, the Bachelor's degree programme in Business Administration at HWZ offers different scheduling options. Depending on your chosen option, evening sessions take place online or on campus, while workshop days are grouped together and follow a fixed monthly schedule. This makes it possible to combine your studies with substantial professional commitments.
| Study schedule | Evening sessions| weekly | Workshop days at HWZ | once a month |
|---|---|---|
| Mon/Tue option | Tuesday, 17:30–20:45, online | Monday and Tuesday, 09:00–16:30 |
| Wed/Fri/Sat option | Wednesday, 17:30–20:45, online | Friday and Saturday, 09:00–16:30 |
| Thu/Fri/Sat option | Thursday, 17:30–20:45, on campus | Friday and Saturday, 09:00–16:30 |
The Bachelor's degree programme is designed to allow you to continue working alongside your studies. A workload of 80–90% is recommended, with a minimum of 50% required. This means you can continue gaining professional experience while applying what you learn directly in your day-to-day work.
Fixed study schedules help you plan your studies around your professional and personal commitments well in advance. At the same time, you bring your own workplace experience into workshops and discussions with fellow students.
Four engaging and varied years of study prepare you for your professional future. You acquire, deepen and connect knowledge and skills across a broad range of subjects, from business administration and business development to leadership, AI skills, academic research and analytical methods.
The programme consists of a one-year assessment stage followed by three years of main study. In your final year, you choose your area of specialisation (see the list below) and complete your Bachelor's thesis. The curriculum is organised into different subject tracks.

Finally, you present your research process and findings in an oral presentation.
Choosing your specialisations allows you to tailor your studies to your interests. In your final year, you develop additional expertise in specific subjects and industries through your chosen specialisations.
