The broad curriculum of the Business Communications degree programme at HWZ equips you, for a successful career in exciting and demanding specialist and/or leadership roles. Our students make valuable contributions to businesses, public administrations and NGOs. They are active in corporate and marketing communications, sales, client advisory services, communications consultancy, advertising, internal communications, event management, journalism, human resources management and other staff functions. Particular emphasis is placed on social media and artificial intelligence. This ensures you are also well prepared for the job descriptions of the future.
The programme is optimally tailored to meet the needs of students who are studying alongside their professional commitments.
The degree programme allows you to work between 50 and 90% while undertaking your four-year course of study.

The total duration of the part-time bachelor’s degree programme at HWZ is four years. The programme is divided into the two-semester basic study/assessment period and the four- semester main study period. In the final two semesters, you will specialise in a major topic of your choice. Graduates of the Bachelor in Business Communications at HWZ score highly in the job market thanks to this comprehensive curriculum. You will work on numerous client projects during your studies, developing tangible solutions for customers from business, public administration and NGOs. In this way, you can put your new skills and knowledge into practice immediately, test them in real-world situations and benefit from direct feedback.
In the foundation phase, you will acquire the fundamentals of communication and psychology and begin to expand your specialist knowledge early on in the areas of marketing and branding.
In the main phase of your studies, you will address business, communication and marketing challenges in a holistic way. You will apply your growing expertise in management and communication to develop creative concepts using words, sound, images and video. In doing so, you will make use of powerful technologies such as social media, big data and artificial intelligence to effectively reach relevant target groups. This enables you to create strategically sound communication concepts that generate real added value both for the clients of your student projects and for your own professional development.

In this area, you will become familiar with key topics in business management. The focus is on developing relationships that are critical to success, both within the organisation and with its external environment. In courses such as Human Resources Management, Organisational Theory and Strategic Leadership, you will learn how to manage these relationships effectively.
Anyone wishing to think and act entrepreneurially must also understand the fundamentals of the Swiss legal system and be familiar with recent economic and social history. In addition, you will engage with socially relevant topics in sociology, media studies, political science and business ethics. This foundational knowledge will support you in developing innovative business projects that are both future-oriented and sustainable.

Anyone wishing to manage projects successfully faces the challenge of organising themselves effectively, efficiently and confidently, with a clear sense of purpose, as well as being familiar with fundamental working methods.
During your bachelor’s degree, you will work on up to eight projects involving real assignments from business, public administration or non-governmental organisations. In this way, you will gain hands-on experience of project management in a practical setting. This experience will give you the confidence to plan and implement demanding projects successfully, either independently or as part of a team, throughout your professional career.
Thanks to small study groups, our lecturers are able to dedicate time to you, respond to your individual needs and provide targeted coaching. In the final year of your Bachelor of Science at HWZ, you will choose from a wide range of major specialisations the subject that inspires you most, gives your career a decisive boost, and best supports your professional development. The two majors, Banking & Finance and UX & Data-Driven Organisations, are primarily designed for the Bachelor’s programmes in Digital Business & AI HWZ and Business Administration HWZ, but are also open to you following a successful suitability assessment.
The bachelor’s degree programme in Business Communications at HWZ is aimed at individuals who aspire to take on a leadership role or a highly qualified role in a management team or to work as a specialist.
Admission requirements for the first semester
Swiss Federal Vocational Baccalaureate in business and services (kfm BM)
Swiss Federal Vocational Baccalaureate in a different area plus one year of relevant practical experience
Swiss academic baccalaureate (Gymnasiale Maturität) or specialised baccalaureate (Fachmaturität), plus one year of relevant practical experience
Selected colleges of professional education (höhere Fachschulen – HF)
‘Sur dossier’ (individually assessed admission) in individual cases
The tuition fees are CHF 4,750 per semester. This does not include the cost of course materials, non-standard assessments and resits, external language and subject certifications or any applicable licence fees.
The tuition fees include:

• External seminars (excluding travel expenses)
The fees can be paid in monthly instalments, in which case a surcharge of 5% will be added.
The tuition fees are counterbalanced by the higher workload you can maintain in a course that is compatible with your employment (see the video below). Even during your studies, you can continue to develop your career and immediately reinforce your practical experience with theoretical knowledge. In addition, you benefit from building a broad network early on through interaction with fellow students and lecturers, as well as complimentary membership to alumniHWZ.
