In this major, you combine sustainable development with a global perspective and prepare to lead organisations responsibly and successfully in an international context. You will acquire the knowledge and competences needed to strategically integrate sustainability and internationalisation. You will learn how organisations balance ecological, social and economic objectives and develop innovative business models for the future. At the same time, the major equips you to analyse global interrelationships, understand international markets and cultural dynamics, and leverage the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly interconnected world for organisations, both for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and for international corporations.

By choosing a specialisation, you build targeted, subject- and sector-specific expertise in your final year of study – focusing on exactly what will help you progress in your career.

In one semester, you will gain a foundation in corporate sustainability. In the other semester, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of global challenges and the ability to shape business strategies in an international context.

Programme overview

During the Sustainable Business Development semester you learn how to successfully integrate ecological, social and economic objectives, and how sustainable business models can be developed as a result. The focus is on corporate responsibility towards society and stakeholders. You will engage in depth with current approaches such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), environmental social governance (ESG) and the circular economy, reflect on the role of technological progress in sustainable development, and learn how to embed sustainability strategically within corporate management. Key topics also include CSR communication, sustainability reporting and effective stakeholder management.

During the Global Perspectives semester you broaden your perspective on international markets, global power structures, and cultural diversity. You will analyse current challenges from economic, political, and societal viewpoints – ranging from international trade relations and geopolitical conflicts to intercultural aspects of international business. You will develop an understanding of the complex interconnections within the global economy, deepen your knowledge of international and intercultural management, and learn how to lead organisations confidently and successfully in a global context.
