Dr Matthias Nast studied history, political science and general ecology at the University of Bern. In 1996, he was awarded his doctorate by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences there. For several years, Matthias Nast worked as an editor and project manager at the Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS), participated in discussions with various stakeholders on technological innovation and social change at the Risk Dialogue Foundation in St Gallen, and conducted research in the field of risk communication. As head of communications, Matthias Nast was responsible for both internal and external communications for the Swiss Gas and Water Industry Association (SVGW) from 2008 to 2010. From 2010 to 2024, he served as deputy programme director for the BSc Business Communications; since 2025, he has been co-programme director. He also teaches as a lecturer and principal lecturer at HWZ. In addition, Matthias Nast conducts research and publishes on his main areas of interest: history, environment, communication and ethics.
