5 tips for the stage from Kiki Maeder: How to deliver a successful performance

How can you deliver a presentation that moves people, convinces them, and remains memorable? In the module «TEDxHWZ Public Speaking», participants of the Executive MBA Digital Leadership HWZ learn how to present their messages on stage with clarity, presence, and personality. Communication expert and SRF presenter Kiki Maeder, together with Urs Bucher (on behalf of Christina Gfeller), provides practical guidance on how to deliver impactful presentations in the age of leadership, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence.

Communication on stage and in front of the camera becomes a leadership skill

Whether delivering a TEDx talk, a leadership presentation, or pitching to clients and teams, the ability to engage people through words and presence is now one of the most important skills for modern leaders. As content is available at all times, it is the manner of delivery that determines attention, trust, and impact.

This is precisely where the training day «Hands-on Speaker Training in a Studio Setting» of the module «TEDxHWZ Public Speaking» comes in Executive MBA Digital Leadership. In a practice-oriented environment – the AVA Studios – participants of the EMBA work specifically on their stage presence, storytelling, as well as their voice, body language, and personal impact. The training combines professional speaker coaching with realistic performance situations – including direct feedback and personal reflection.

Five tips from Kiki Maeder for a strong performance

Kiki Maeder knows from experience: a successful presentation is much more than just good rhetoric – it is the combination of content, attitude and impact. Her five most important recommendations for speakers:

  1. Defining a strong core message: Those who know clearly what they want to say provide direction—for themselves and for their audience.

  2. Using storytelling as a strategic tool: Facts inform, stories inspire. An authentic narrative approach gives content depth.

  3. Consciously guiding voice and speech: Dynamism arises from rhythm, pauses and emphasis – they give speech structure and energy.

  4. Using non-verbal communication effectively: Posture, gestures and eye contact reinforce the message and enhance credibility.

  5. Understanding authenticity as a strength: Impact is created where people present themselves authentically – with clarity, personality, and confidence in their own voice.
