«We care for people and their very individual stories.» – With this commitment, Mirjam Lämmle leads the Swiss Cancer League. For cancer is not just a diagnosis, but an experience that changes lives.

They analyse, comment, and offer practical guidance. Real-world examples are combined with academic knowledge to provide ideal support for everyday communication challenges. Sharp commentary included.

In Switzerland, 68 % of those affected now survive for five years after diagnosis – a medical advance that offers hope. However, cancer is more than just a tumour: it poses immense challenges for the body, mind, and social environment. The Swiss Cancer League addresses these gaps by providing counselling, support, and accessible information. For over 115 years, it has been committed to prevention, early detection, research, and palliative care.

Mirjam Lämmle, CEO of the Swiss Cancer League, values companies that take responsibility: they should embed cancer prevention and early detection within their workplace health management, raise awareness among employees, support affected individuals in remaining in employment, and facilitate their return to work. One in three people in Switzerland will develop cancer during their lifetime. This means that cancer affects us all. A key concern for Mirjam Lämmle is to break the taboo surrounding cancer. The voices of those affected and their relatives should be heard in society and politics. Only through visibility can people living with and after cancer be supported and embraced by society.

Within her organisation, Mirjam fosters a leadership culture that enables impact. Her aim is to create structures in which employees have the scope to act and make decisions, take on responsibility, understand how their work contributes to strategic goals, and are able to develop in an environment characterised by mutual respect, transparency, and trust. Solidarity and humanity are not only values, but are actively put into practice.
