From practice, for practice. In this degree programme, you will work on real-world issues and complex tasks set by clients from business, public administration and NGOs. All of this takes place in the heart of Zurich, right next to Europaallee.
For me, further education has to be practical. The HWZ concept won me over in this regard: the programme structure and the way it is organised and integrated into professional life are first class.
The aim of this Executive MBA programme is to familiarise you with the key factors, models and methods of modern business management. We enable you to make the right decisions both for your organisation and for yourself.
You will enhance your on-the-job performance and give your already successful professional career an additional boost. As a graduate of this EMBA, you will be well equipped to take on a wide range of leadership roles in business and public administration immediately.
The Executive MBA qualification represents a prestigious and internationally recognised advanced programme in management. It is aimed at graduates of higher education institutions as well as individuals with equivalent qualifications. This programme is of particular interest to managers who wish to deepen their understanding of business administration aspects within their roles and approach those aspects from a holistic entrepreneurial perspective.
The on-campus component of the programme comprises a total of approximately 60 days over eighteen months. Of these, around 15 days fall on a Saturday. The programme consists of 15 block seminars, each lasting three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). The course schedule is designed so that you complete one block seminar per month and additionally one block week per semester. The study dates are known before the start of the EMBA and are fixed for the entire duration of the programme.
This arrangement offers you a high degree of planning certainty. By distributing the study days, we enable you to achieve an excellent balance between your professional and personal life.
The location of the classrooms in the heart of Zurich, on Europaallee, just a few minutes’ walk from the main railway station, ensures optimal accessibility to the university from your workplace or home.
The EMBA in General Management is based on an integrated concept. It is systematically structured according to the 'Understand – Challenge – Change' framework.
In the first semester, you will build a solid conceptual foundation to understand and apply key topics in practice ('Understand'). In the second semester, the focus is on the current challenges faced by organisations in the respective fields ('Challenge'). You will examine the implications of these challenges for your organisation and for you as a leader. In the third semester, you will receive targeted input on transformation processes and work on your personal and case-based development across all subject areas ('Change').
All content is delivered in a practice-oriented manner and designed to be combined with professional commitments.
Leadership plays a central role in this Executive MBA. Around 20 of the total 60 study days are dedicated to developing leadership and change capabilities.
Management issues and decision-making processes are always examined within a broader context. To ensure that these complex interrelationships are also addressed methodologically and didactically during the programme, teaching is particularly practice-oriented.
The close collaboration with fellow participants and lecturers over the course of three semesters creates a positive and enriching learning environment.
The content of the degree programme follows a clear concept: 1. Developing a deep understanding of dedicated management tasks (“Understand”), 2. Analysing and engaging with current challenges (“Challenge”), and 3. Developing and implementing change decisions (“Change”). The programme for this EMBA includes attendance at a one-week management module in the United States, held at the Darden School of Business.
As a rule, the International Week at the Darden School of Business is attended by students from the Executive MBA – General Management, the Executive Module – Advanced Management Programme, and the Master of Science in Business Administration. The week begins with a welcome dinner on Sunday and includes five study days (Mon–Fri). Over four days, you work on marketing and management topics through case studies, simulations and interactive teaching sessions. On one additional day, the programme includes one to two company visits. The language of instruction during this week is English.
What impressed me about HWZ was its practical orientation. Students are consistently called upon to apply the knowledge they have acquired in case studies and real-world scenarios.
